PME MTL Ouest-de-l'Île’s Fonds de développement de l’économie sociale is a financial lever to help bring social economy projects to fruition.
With subsidies of up to $50,000, PME MTL Ouest-de-l'Île’s FDÉS (Fonds de développement de l'économie sociale) supports businesses with projects aimed at reviving the social economy of the West Island.
The deadlines for receipt of projects are:
- July 1, 2022
- March 31, 2023
The specific terms and conditions of the call for projects are described below.
Financial Support
A subsidy of up to $50,000 granted to the business or organization
Eligibilible Organizations
To be eligible for a subsidy from the Fonds de développement de l’économie sociale, a business must meet the following conditions:
- Be a social economy enterprise or a non-profit organization (NPO) or cooperative with a social economy project, such as a community centre.
- Business stages: pre-launch, launch, growth, consolidation
- Be headquartered on the territory covered by PME MTL Ouest-de-l'Île. See the cities and boroughs served here
- Have a formal entrepreneurial approach
- Have self-generated revenue from the sale of goods or services representing 20% of its annual revenue
- Show an ability to create or maintain jobs
- Invest at least 20% of the total project cost
1 - The accepted legal forms are a non-profit legal person and a cooperative. A sole proprietorship, commonly called a self-employed worker, is not eligible for the fund.
Eligible Projects
Projects eligible for a FDÉS subsidy must aim to revive the social economy of the West Island. More specifically, we are looking for projects with a view to:
- Start a social economy project
- Diversification of the commercial offer (product or service)
- New marketing techniques
- Diversification of income sources
Assessment Criteria
All eligible projects will be assessed within six weeks of the deadline set for each call for projects, based on the following criteria:
- Meeting the needs of the community
- Economic and social benefits (jobs, community outreach, etc.)
- Experience and skills related to the project
- Project management
- Internal employee training
- Cost structure and project financing
- Overall project quality
Application Analysis
The social economy committee will analyze the applications according to the following criteria:
- Clarity of the problem addressed
- Relevance of the project to the objectives of the business
- Quality and relevance of the project implementation plan (details of objectives, stages, activities and expected results)
- Proposed methods for monitoring and measuring the impact of the project
- Governance and financial practices of the organization
- Budget details and justification of the amount applied for
- Potential for reproducibility or sustainability of the project
- Overall project quality
Submission of Applications and Required Documents
- Business plan
- Letters patent
- Up-to-date list of members of the board of directors
- Activity report for the past year, if applicable
- Financial statements for the last two completed financial years
- Financial projections for the current year and the following year
- Resolution
Selection Process
Step 1: Receipt of projects and assessment
Applications must reach PME MTL Ouest-de-l'Île no later than Friday, July 1 at 4:30 p.m. and Friday, March 31, 2023 at 4:30 p.m.
Step 2: Deliberation
Members of the social economy committee will choose the businesses that will receive a subsidy
Step 3: Announcement of selected projects
The selected projects will be announced via a press release. Subsidy recipients will be photographed during the presentation ceremony.
PME MTL Ouest-de-l'Île reserves the right to publicly distribute the photos for promotional purposes.
