Two West Island businesses have won the WISE 50over50 Awards

On October 19th, 2017 at the Startup Canada Day event in Ottawa, Jacques Cantin from Caninno Inc. and Faraj Nakhleh from Trakmaps, both businesses supported by PME MTL Ouest-de-l'Île, won the WISE 50over50 Awards.

The fastest growing segment of business start-ups in Canada are over the age of 50.
WISE - Seniors in Business, (an initiative of Business Launch Solutions), launched the WISE 50over50 Awards to recognize and celebrate Canadian entrepreneurs who started a business as an encore career. To recognize hard-working, experienced Canadians starting their business, they gave out awards to 50 business owners who deserve recognition for their success.

Jacques Cantin - Caninno inc. 

Caninno is a Montreal-based industrial technology startup that focuses on the development, production and commercialization of novel proprietary solutions to deice and prevent further icing of wind turbine. In 2017, their business plan and presentation won the Défi PME-MTL Ouest-de-l'Île as best BP in the technology and technical division.

Faraj Nakhleh - TrakMaps

TrakMaps designs, develops, produces and markets maps & charts for the outdoors. TrakMaps GPS products (Marine, Hunting, Topo, ATV & Snowmobile Trails are compatible with Garmin, Lowrance, Raymarine and Magellan. In 2014, TrakMaps received the Lanaudière Prize (Matawinie) for Innovation.

Open to Canadian residents who started their business after turning 50, nominations were sent in with representation from every province and NWT. A panel of judges across North America volunteered their time to oversee the nominations and choose the winners.
