Call for innovation projects: PME MTL Centre-Ouest supports two local businesses

Like the other hubs in the PME MTL network, PME MTL Centre-Ouest launched a call for innovation projects in 2025 to provide financial support to local businesses wishing to transform or modernize their operations. The objective is clear: to promote the integration of technologies, the improvement of processes, and the development of innovative solutions that strengthen both the productivity and competitiveness of local SMEs.
Two companies were selected and stood out for the relevance of their approach and the expected impact of their projects: Produits de Pâtisserie Orientale (PPO) and Créations Aguib Inc.
Produits de Pâtisserie Orientale (PPO) : automating to meet growing demand
Founded in 1985, PPO is a family-owned business that manufactures phyllo dough and kataifi, distributed under the Lilas, Omega, and Alpha brands, as well as under private labels for major Canadian and American retailers.
With demand constantly on the rise, PPO faces a strategic challenge: increasing its capacity while maintaining the artisanal quality that has built its reputation. The Innovation Projects call for proposals enabled it to launch a major modernization initiative by continuing to automate part of its production. This transformation aims to optimize processes, improve product consistency, and support the company's expansion. It is also an opportunity to offer employees a more attractive work environment with less repetitive tasks, which is crucial for staff retention.
“This grant not only helps us automate our production, but also enables us to respond optimally to the growing demand for our products. It supports our expansion and innovation efforts. Thanks to this financial support, we can significantly increase our capacity and operational efficiency,” says Makram Attia, Controller, PPO.
This project will strengthen PPO's position in the specialized agri-food sector while enabling it to better meet the needs of a demanding market.
SnowMelting.ca (Créations Aguib Inc.): Structuring technological growth to revolutionize winter management
Based in Saint-Laurent, SnowMelting.ca (Créations Aguib Inc.) is on its way to becoming a leader in technological innovation applied to winter outdoor landscaping. The company has developed a smart heated paving solution that integrates artificial intelligence, home automation, and optimized energy management to safely and energy-efficiently remove snow and ice without the use of chemicals. Faced with rapidly growing demand, the team wanted to structure its operations to support expansion and industrialize its technology.
The financing provided by PME MTL Centre-Ouest in partnership with Desjardins Entreprise enabled the company to implement strategic levers: an investment in marketing related to its participation in the Techo-Bloc road show (North American leader in paving stones), where SnowMelting.ca presented its technology to hundreds of distributors and installers; prototyping of its new smart boxes; development of management software (ERP system) to centralize production and sales; protection of its intellectual property; and creation of an inventory.
These initiatives enable SnowMelting.ca to move into an industrial phase while maintaining its capacity for innovation. By structuring its growth in this way, the company is positioning itself as a key player in smart and sustainable snow melting, at the crossroads of the landscaping, construction, energy, and clean technology sectors.
A tool for transforming businesses in the Centre-Ouest territory
Through this call for projects, PME MTL Centre-Ouest continues to support innovation by helping local businesses implement projects that improve their performance and growth potential. The initiatives funded demonstrate that innovation can take many forms, from manufacturing automation to the modernization of management tools and the development of new marketing approaches.
By supporting Produits de Pâtisserie Orientale and Création Aguib, PME MTL Centre-Ouest is focusing on concrete projects that are adapted to the realities on the ground and directly contribute to strengthening the economic vitality of the Centre-Ouest.
